A space for the human experience

Welcome to Akin Counselling and Psychotherapy where understanding meets connection. We offer therapy that is compassionate, attuned, and grounded. At Akin, we strongly believe that healing begins in the therapeutic relationship. Together we’ll explore your experiences with curiosity in a supportive space where you can slow down and make sense of what feels overwhelming to reconnect with yourself and feel truly understood.

Schedule a free consultation

We provide a free 15-minute online or telephone consultation. This will provide you the opportunity to meet the therapist, ask questions about therapeutic expectations, fees, and ensure you feel like the therapist’s approach is a good fit for your goals and needs.

1

Schedule an initial in-person or virtual session

In the initial intake session, you and the therapist begin to discuss your current concerns in more detail while also exploring early experiences and background history. This will help the therapist get to know you and your experiences in order to set realistic and collaborative therapeutic goals.

“Before every session I take a moment to remember my humanity. There is no experience that this man has that I cannot share with him, no fear that I cannot understand, no suffering that I cannot care about, because I too am human. No matter how deep his wound, he does not need to be ashamed in front of me. I too am vulnerable. And because of this, I am enough. Whatever his story, he no longer needs to be alone with it. This is what will allow his healing to begin.”
